So you live at a health spa with your own personal chef. You lucky duck, you. For everyone else… eating well isn’t a freebie. It doesn’t happen by accident. It requires a plan. Eating well is a daily challenge. You have to make it happen with a little anticipation and planning ahead.

What does a healthy meal look like to you?

It’s different for every individual. And, there are some standard principles.

Healthy meals often include some of each category:

  • lean protein
  • colorful vegetables
  • smart carbs
  • healthy fats

Most moderately active folks do best with about 1-2 portions of each category at each meal, for 3-4 meals per day.

Then, individualize it for yourself with some questions.

  • Preferences: What foods do you like and want to eat?
  • Goals: What foods are high-quality, nutritious, and move you towards your goals?
  • Accessibility: What foods are convenient and easy for you to get? (E.g., What will you have available near by? What will you have to shop for?)

The only thing left to do is to stay focused and execute on each of the small and simple steps you put in place for yourself.
